City of Joliet Arts Commission met Sept. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

ROLL CALL

Present Absent

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Carmine, seconded by Simpson, Jr, that the July 21, 2021 meeting minutes be approved. The motion carried unanimously.

CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS

None.

NEW BUSINESS

Funding Committee-Eryn Blaser, Chairperson

The Funding subcommittee shared updates since their September meeting which included promotion of the ongoing raffle which ends Sept. 25, they continue to look for additional non-voting members and have not yet received any updates from the IACA grant that was applied to earlier this summer.

Arts Incubation Subcommittee-Quinn Adamowski, Chairperson

No report at this time.

Arts Innovation Subcommittee-Lorinda Carmine, Chairperson

The Innovation subcommittee shared updates on the logo contest and plans for social media and webpage updates.

Partnerships & Community Engagement-Valerie Devine & Dr. Theresa Rouse, Co-Chairpersons

No report at this time.

For Discussion: Revisions to the Arts Commission Bylaws

Megan Millen reviewed proposed changes to the bylaws as discussed at the last meeting which includes changes to term limits and length of service for officers. Diversity representation on the commission was discussed by the group at length. The commission agrees to discuss ongoing equity at an upcoming Vision 2021 meeting. Additional edits to the bylaws will be discussed at the next bylaws subcommittee meeting.

For Discussion: Commissioner Re-Appointments and Elections

The Commission reviewed and discussed the ordinance amendment suggested which impacts non-voting members. The Commission ultimately takes a straw poll to determine if there is support to ask Council to table the issue or move forward with a vote. The poll determines the majority would prefer to ask Council to table the issue.

For Action: Approval of the Joliet Arts Commission Website and Marketing Collateral

Carmine reviews the contest guidelines and asks for feedback. The subject of payment or awards comes up and the Commission agrees the Funding subcommittee should work on a sponsor to offset the prize aspect of the contest. Funding agrees to discuss at their next meeting.

A motion was made by Carmine, seconded by Marcum, that the September 15, 2021 meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
