FOIA Request to Governors State University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Governors State University. This request seeks information about the university's Chinese National students and related policies.

Our inquiry includes several specific requests:

1. We are seeking documents or lists that detail all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we have requested the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. We have asked for records showing all current Chinese National students, the scholarships they receive, and the sources of these scholarships.

3. Additionally, we are interested in identifying recipients of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. If this data overlaps with our second request, we have asked for clarification on which scholarships meet this criterion.

4. Lastly, we seek any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors students—including Chinese Nationals—to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of Will County Gazette and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency, access to public records is vital for fulfilling our responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver under media provisions.
