On Veterans Day, state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) took to social media to pay tribute to the men and women who are active members of or have served in the U.S. military.
“Today, we celebrate [and] give thanks for the brave men [and] women of our armed forces who have answered the call to serve [and] defend our nation,” Rezin tweeted on Nov. 11. “These American heroes have fought [and] sacrificed to preserve our freedoms [and] way of life. Our nation’s veterans deserve our respect [and] appreciation.”
The senator has remained busy during the past few months.
In October, Rezin criticized the practice of holding pieces of legislation until veto session.
The Illinois General Assembly reconvenes every fall for a two-week “veto session” where lawmakers reconsider bills previously rejected by the governor, with other initiatives often thrown into the mix that are also discussed and voted on during the session, the Kendall County Times reported.
According to Rezin, passing bills at the 11th hour is a poor practice her Democratic counterparts frequently engage in.
“Waiting to pass important legislation until the final hour is not a good functioning government and it's not how a good functioning government is supposed to work,” she said, the Kendall County Times reported. “Important legislation should be vetted and given proper time and the opportunity for the public to weigh in.”
Rezin also assailed the repeal of Parental Notification of Abortion Act of 1995, which passed both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly.
“We're standing up for the rights of parents all across the state of Illinois so that we can provide the support that our daughters need,” she said on Oct. 19, according to ABC7, the Illinois Valley Times reported.
