Marty Ozinga III, Chairman of the Board of the Mokena-based concrete supplier Ozinga, a former congressional candidate and a longtime participant in Will County Republican politics, has died.
Will County Republican Chairman George Pearson remembered Ozinga's legacy, noting that he was a "true man of God."
"His humanitarian support was well known," Pearson reflected in a newsletter. "Yet he sought no praise or acknowledgement of his deeds. Marty III once stated to me, 'I prefer God’s acknowledgement.' Marty Ozinga III was an inspiration. He laid out a solid foundation and constructed a concrete legacy for generations to come."
According to a statement made by Ozinga CEO and Marty Ozinga III's son, Marty Ozinga IV, earlier this week, the board chairman suddenly passed away at 71 years old. The CEO said his father was loved by family members, coworkers, customers and friends.
"Please keep the Ozinga family in your thoughts and prayers," the statement said.
Pearson added that Ozinga's death will be felt for a while to come.
"I need not remind each of you of how supportive Marty Ozinga III was to me personally, and to our Will County Republican Organization," the Will County GOP Chair said. "So, I ask that you please keep the entire Ozinga family in your thoughts and lifted up in prayer."
Marty ran as a Republican in the U.S. Congressional race in 2008 and participated in humanitarian efforts overseas in Africa and India each year. He retired from Ozinga's operations in 2012, and his sons represent the fourth generation of Ozinga ownership.
Ozinga is survived by his wife, six sons and their spouses and 29 grandchildren.
