Will County Board member Steve Balich beat incumbent Homer Township Supervisor Pam Meyers in the recent election. Everyone else in the Republican slate headed by Balich also won seats.
Balich earned 58.5 percent of the vote, defeating Meyers. Final and official canvass results will be released on Tuesday, April 27.
“The Homer GOP carried the day,” Balich said. “We’re going to fix where we live. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Vicki Bozen led Kathleen Kruczek for clerk, Carmen Maurella defeated Karen Szynkowski for the assessor seat, Brent Porfilio won against John Ash for highway commissioner, and Mark Gawron had more votes than Quinn Polaski for the collector seat. Balich’s team touts they will be able to represent the community for what they stand for.
“Voting for candidates that believe in smaller government, less taxes, and less regulations improves the everyday life of the citizen,” Balich stated on Facebook. “We are elected to represent the people and should not vote for anything that does not positively impact everyday life of the families in Will County."
Joining Balich on the board as trustees are Matt Connelly, Angela Adolf, Mike Bonomo and Rob Rivera who won against United trustee candidates Ed Kalas, Tom Fijan, Sharon Sweas, and Ken Marcin. Balich had the support of Will County Board member and Minority Leader Mike Fricilone.
“Steve Balich, my counterpart on the board, is running for supervisor in Homer and I think he’ll be a good candidate to take that position,” Will County Board member Mike Fricilone told the Will County Gazette before the election.
Balich previously served as the Homer Township Clerk for four years and as a trustee for eight years.
With a current legal dispute, where the township sued the village last year it is not clear yet how a complete change in the township officeholders might affect it.
The township contested the village of Homer Glen’s claim of the road district’s assets through a transfer of stewardship.
