Will County Board member Mike Fricilone has come to have such a good impression of Steve Balich he finds it easy to support him in his run for Homer Township supervisor.

“Steve Balich, my counterpart on the board, is running for supervisor in Homer and I think he’ll be a good candidate to take that position,” Fricilone told the Will County Gazette.

Running against incumbent supervisor Pam Meyers, Balich is clear about what he stands for.

“I believe in less government, taxes and regulations,” Balich post on his Facebook page. “Elected people should listen to the people and stand for what they are elected for. Voting for candidates that believe in smaller government, less taxes, and less regulations improves the everyday life of the citizen. We are elected to represent the people and should not vote for anything that does not positively impact everyday life of the families in Will County.”

Balich recently took part in a Republican caucus for the party’s backing where he laid out all the reasons why he and his slate would be better for the township than Meyers and her team.

“They spend money kind of foolishly,” he said, adding that he plans to cut government spending without reducing services for seniors.

Balich said he is also opposed to a plan that would see the township erect a multipurpose building to hold events, even though residents recently voted by an almost 2-1 margin to a referendum in support of the plan.

“We don’t need that here,” Balich told Shaw Media, adding that he feels the project would be an unwise investment of township resources.

Now serving as a Will County Board member for almost a decade, Balich said state statute would allow him to hold a township position and seat on the board at the same time.

He later added he only plans to serve as supervisor for one term, or long enough to cut the size of government.

"I'm just looking to fix it," he said.
