A grant to help support businesses in Joliet that have suffered due to COVID-19 has been announced by the Joliet City Center Partnership.
According to The Herald-News, the Emergency Retailer/Restaurant Grant will be available in the City Center Special Service Area to cover 50% of eligible expenses between March 16 and April 17 up to $2,500.
The partnership has set aside $100,000 for the fund, which it will distribute in May. The funds were repurposed from a beautification grant, which came from a special property tax, the news agency reported. The special property tax was paid by property owners to support businesses in the district.
"Our City Center restaurants and retailers are the heart of downtown Joliet and we’re thrilled to be able to give them a bit of hope and support through this grant," Lauren Las, marketing and event manager at the Joliet City Center Partnership, said in the news release. "The entrepreneurs who have invested their time and money and passion into this city have faced these recent challenges with resiliency and innovation, and we hope this grant can be a lifeline for them."
