Congressional candidate Rick Laib (R-Joliet) is doing everything he can to ensure that both sides of the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump are represented in the 11th District.
“There is significant merit to voicing opposition,” Laib told the Will County Gazette on the same day Democrats moved to formally impeach the president. “U.S. Rep. Bill Foster (D-Aurora) is my representative, however, his view that we should impeach based on claims, sentiments and feelings is not representative of me.”
Laib is challenging Foster in the 11th District in 2020, and the longtime Will County Sheriff and member of the Army Reserves already understands the importance of satisfying the will of the people.

“I have not spoken to anyone who could articulate to me a persuasive case that the president should be impeached,” Laib said. “It is because of the weight of these allegations and this process that we would do well to demand more.”
Laib plans to be front and center in Joliet when Will County GOP members gather outside the offices of Democratic congressional leaders to raise their voices in opposition to the impeachment of President Trump. Laib argues that the proceedings represent a new low, given all that Trump has done for the nation – the best stock-market numbers ever, the lowest unemployment numbers in half a century, and the highest real median household income increases in decades, to name a few.
“What we have seen has been a partisan case against the president,” Laib said. “It shows the country that this congress’ threshold for impeachment is very low. Absent real evidence, it would appear that this congress is simply trying to overturn and undo the presidential election results of 2016.”
