Former state university employee Bomar Cole paid in $8K to pension fund, could collect $118K in retirement

Former state university employee Shirley Bomar Cole, who retired in April 2018, saved $8,352 toward a pension over 9 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bomar Cole would collect as much as $117,606, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Will County Gazette.

The projection assumes Bomar Cole received $2,472 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Bomar Cole will have already received $10,341 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
