The Illinois House of Representatives congratulated K. Michael Welch, the retiring president and CEO of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, in House Resolution 1344, passed Nov. 29.
"Since becoming President of Rosalind Franklin University [ in 2002], Dr. Welch renamed the University and successfully implemented a full institutional assessment that launched a new mission and vision for the school, integrating the education of all health professions with the goal of enhanced delivery of health care into a model of interprofessional education . . ." the resolution states.
During his tenure, Welch oversaw the rebuilding of the Board of Trustees with better communication, ownership, and accountability, according to the resolution. He also focused on community engagement and service.
Wendy Rheault, who is currently the provost at the university, has been named interim president and will replace Welch on Jan. 1, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.
