Alyssia Benford: 'Be active in your community.'
Describing her campaign as one about “reclaiming your voice,” Republican state House hopeful Alyssia Benford recently posted to Facebook to thank supporters for standing with her in her 98th House District run.
“While we were not victorious, I hope you always fight for a cause you believe in,” Benford said in her post. “I hope this campaign educated and empowered voters. But more importantly, I hope it inspired you to be active in your community and to unite around a common cause.”
Benford lost to Democrat Natalie Manley, who finished with 64 percent of the vote and 13,561 votes. Benford had 36 percent of the vote, with 4,238 votes.
Throughout her campaign, Benford said a vote for Manley was a vote for longtime Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), who has faced criticism for the state's financial problems.
She ended her post by thanking supporters “for the love, encouragement and support.”
The 98th District includes part of the Chicago metro area and the communities of Crest Hill, Du Page Joliet, Lockport, Plainfield, Troy and Wheatland.
