Former Lincoln-Way Central soccer star Ned Grabavoy was recently back where it all began in his illustrious career.
According to the school's Facebook page, the 2001 Lincoln-Way grad was recently back at the school to see his No.11 jersey retired and to be feted as one of the community’s biggest role models.
Grabavoy, who led the Knights to two straight Illinois State Championship games and was twice named Illinois Soccer Player of the year, went on to star at Indiana University and to play 14 Major League Soccer (MLS) seasons, winning three MLS and U.S. Open Cup championships combined.
Currently, he serves as Director of Scouting and Recruitment for the Portland Timbers.
Grabavoy joins former NFL star Rob Ninkovich as just the second Lincoln-Way Central athlete to have his jersey retired. As a senior at Central, he was named National Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year and Gatorade National High School Player of the Year.
