Will County Clerk candidate Laurie McPhillips has received the endorsements of two colleagues that know what the job requires.

Current Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots, and her forerunner, Jan Gould, both announced they support McPhillips in November’s election against Lauren Staley-Ferry, McPhillips wrote on Facebook.

A record of demonstrated fiscal responsibility is at least one of the credentials McPhillips would bring to the office, her website states. As the county’s recorder of deeds between 2004 and 2008, McPhillips earned accolades from the county auditor for saving taxpayer funds by returning unspent money to the county.

McPhillips, a Republican who sits on the Will County board, emphasizes “honesty, integrity, leadership and experience,” her campaign Facebook page states.

Her experience includes a one-year appointment as operations director for former County Executive Joe Mikan, where she oversaw 15 county departments. McPhillips’ responsibilities included zoning, budget, human resources and other areas. In addition to her government roles, McPhillips has also been a real estate broker for nearly a decade.

In addition to the Fiscal Responsibility Award, McPhillips earned a 2008 Athena Award from the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Working Women Council. Her civic involvement includes Habitat for Humanity, the Will County Forest Preserve District Foundation Board, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Will County Historical Society.

A licensed real estate agent, McPhillips earned an associate degree in business management from Joliet Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Governors State University.
