Northwest Homer FPD responds to 60 fires in 2017

Northwest Homer Fire Protection District responded to 269 calls in 2017 - 3.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Northwest Homer included 60 fires - 37 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 19 other fires.

In all, the department saw $797,400 in fire loss - or about $13,290 per fire.

The department also received 209 false calls, including one malicious call and 208 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries.

The Northwest Homer Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $2,906,216 in 2017.

The Northwest Homer FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $65,328 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,485 for every fire in 2016.
