Channahon FPD responds to 29 fires in 2017

Channahon Fire Protection District responded to 116 calls in 2017 - 1.7 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Channahon included 29 fires - nine structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 13 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,199,500 in fire loss - or about $41,362 per fire.

The department also received 85 false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries.

The Channahon Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,453,273 in 2016.

The Channahon Fire Protection District Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 17 active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $265,258 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $9,474 for every fire in 2016.
