Rick Laib, the Republican candidate for the 86th District's Illinois House seat, is running under the slogan “Let’s see something new in 2018,”
“I love Illinois and I want to help the people of the 86th District to thrive," Laib said on his campaign website.
Laib offers a mix of paramilitary and church service as his credentials, according to a bio on his campaign website. After earning an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Reserves in 2000, Laib held positions on the SWAT team and Honor Guard, among other roles, with the Will County Sheriff’s Department.

An active member of his church, Laib earned a master’s degree from Biola University and a master’s in theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield.
