Northwest Homer FPD responds to 46 fires in 2016

Northwest Homer Fire Protection District responded to 278 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Will County Gazette.

The calls in Northwest Homer included 46 fires - 32 structure fires, four vehicle fires and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $591,025 in fire loss - or about $12,848 per fire.

The department also received 232 false calls, including two malicious calls and 230 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries.

The Northwest Homer FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $65,328 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,420 for every fire in 2016.
