Homer TWP FPD responds to 98 fires in 2016

Homer Township Fire Protection District responded to 432 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Will County Gazette.

The calls in Homer included 98 fires - 61 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 30 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $309,062 in fire loss - or about $3,154 per fire.

The department also received 334 false calls.

The Homer Township FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 40 active employees and six retired or inactive employees, was $516,225 positive as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $5,268 for every fire in 2016.
