Many readers of the Joliet Herald-News cheered the recent news that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will not seek re-election in 2018, with some going so far as calling on her father, House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), to do the same.
“Good riddance!” Gregory Kazak posted on the paper's website. “Her father should have gone 25 years ago! Stop raising our taxes!”
"Now that the Madigans have ruined IL the daughter leaves, with her nice inflated pension," LJ Franklin wrote. "The Madigans earned almost 3/4 of a millions $'s a year from IL tax payers. The Mrs Madigan is included in the corruption. Glad She's leaving but I hear her dad is making her governor."

Some respondents also speculated about what Madigan will do next, with many registering their opposition to a gubernatorial run.
"I'm sure she's got her eyes on bigger and better things,” Sheri Kalins wrote. “If that's the case, we're done.”
A Capitol Fax report on Madigan’s announcement indicated that she does not plan to run for any other office.
