The unique qualities of Will County should attract 50,000 new jobs in the next decade, according to the county's Center for Economic Development (CED).
The CED noted that the county is already one of the fastest-growing in the United States and has capitalized on its proximity to Chicago to develop from a regional and national supplier to a global producer. The county currently has 40 employers providing 500 jobs or more, with 14 of those providing more than 1,000 jobs. Amazon is Will County’s largest employer, with 4,000 employees, while Presence St. Joseph Medical Center employs 3,034 people and the Plainfield School District employs 3,013. Silver Cross Hospital, Valley View School District and the Will County government employ more than 2,000 area residents.
According to the CED, Will County encompasses 850 square miles, including 37 municipalities, 24 townships and urban, suburban and rural areas. It is home to the continent’s largest intermodal center, the Global Transportation Center.
The CED also touted the county's increasing wealth and diversity as particularly attractive to businesses and prospective residents.
