Three awards were handed out by Romeoville Mayor John Noak to recognize outstanding activity in the town of 40,000.
Art Arellano, a volunteer leader who donates his time to several community organizations, received the Citizen of the Year Award.
In honoring Arellano’s involvement, Noak was quoted in a press release as saying, “Volunteers are critical to the success of any organization. We are fortunate to have individuals such as Art in our community.”
Two other awards went to institutions, rather than individuals. Taking the Business of the Year honor, Metal Monkey Brewing LLC was recognized for efforts to help the needy, in addition to bringing new products to market last year.
The second honor went to Romeoville High School, which scored a place on 2016’s U.S. News & World Report list of best high schools for scholastic achievement. Derek Kinder, principal at the school -- which also raised $35,000 to fight cancer -- received the mayor’s award.
