The Lewis University men's volleyball team was number two in the preseason Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association poll, according to www.lewisflyers.com.
The Flyers were ranked behind only Ohio State. The Buckeyes had 80 points and eight first-place votes, while Lewis had 69 points and one first-place vote. Lewis lost 3-2 to Ohio State in the MIVA championship game in March, which was held in Columbus, Ohio.
The rest of the top five saw Loyola at the three spot with 62 points; Ball State at number four with 53 points; and McKendree in fifth with 47 points.
In addition, two Flyers were named to the Preseason All-MIVA Team. Senior middle hitter Jacob Schmiegelt and sophomore opposite hitter Mitch Perinar were selected, with Perinar also being named an Off The Block/Springback Inc. Preseason Second Team All-American.
The Flyers posted a 19-13 record last season.
