Lewis men's basketball team ranked third in GLVC preseason poll

The Lewis men's basketball team was ranked third in the East Division in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men's Basketball Preseason Poll, according to LewisFlyers.com.

The Flyers, who are the defending GLVC champions, received 88 points, including three first-place votes, to tie with Indianapolis in the poll. Bellarmine was picked to win the GLVC East with 114 points, including nine first-place votes.

Quincy was first in the GLVC West rankings, with 113 points and nine first-place votes.

Lewis returns two double-digit scorers from last season in Delaney Blaylock, who was the 2016 GLVC Co-Freshman of the Year, and Miles Simelton, who led the team in assists. Both players averaged 12.3 points per game.

The Flyers went 24-9 last season and 12-6 in the GLVC.

Lewis opens its preseason exhibition campaign Friday, as the Flyers head to Champaign for a 7 p.m; game with Illinois.

Lewis opens the regular season in the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge, which starts Nov. 12 in Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers will take on Michigan Tech at 8 p.m.
