The Indian American Republican Organization recently endorsed Tonia Khouri in the race for the 11th District U.S. House seat, which covers Aurora to Burr Ridge and south to Joliet.
“The Indian American Republican Organization board came to its decision to support her via a unanimous vote last week,” Khouri told the DuPage Policy Journal.
Khouri said the Indian American community in the 11th Congressional District is made up of small-business owners and highly educated professionals in the fields of information technology, health care, engineering, finance, law, hospitality and much more.
Khouri, herself, is a small-business owner and currently serves as chairwoman of the Economic Development Committee on the DuPage County Board, so she knows something about the needs of business owners personally and politically. Living in Aurora with her husband and three children, she talks with residents and sees the necessity for someone who can relate to the people in her community.
“The Indian American Republican Organization has been a great friend to me,” Khouri said. “I’m grateful for their support and look forward to taking our shared values with me when I am elected to Congress in November.”
The Indian American Republican Organization said Khouri has what it takes to succeed.
“Tonia has both the business background and forward-thinking vision that we need more of in Washington,” Nimish Jani, chairman of the Indian American Republican Organization, said. “Her commitment to help Illinois small businesses by reducing taxes while boosting economic growth and her concerns about our national security show she’s in touch with the residents of her district and understands the priorities of Americans today.”
Khouri said the mission of the Indian American Republican Organization is to educate, increase awareness and enhance political participation by Indian Americans to promote a fair and transparent government in alignment with fiscally conservative Republican ideals and core values to improve the future for all Illinois citizens.
“Tonia’s record demonstrates her alignment with our mission and will be an ideal candidate to represent us in Washington,” Krishna Bansal, board member of the Indian American Republican Organization and a prominent Indian community leader, said.
Khouri regularly promotes her passion and dedication to getting her constituents heard across the community, explaining that jobs, education and a safe community are what people desire. Being endorsed by the Indian American Republican Organization shows her multicultural reach, as well as her support for small businesses, Khouri said.
“The job of a representative is to represent the people in the district," Khouri said. "In order to truly serve the people in the district, you have to know the people. We deserve to have a representative with leadership and passion and vision, and I want to be that representative for them in Washington. I want to be their voice that is not being heard right now in Washington.”
