Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 65 percent of Joliet West High School's 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For JWHS, its college enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 62.5 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at JWHS in 2015 was 3,205; 721 (22.5 percent) were seniors.
Also according to ISBE, 40 percent of JWHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, versus an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
JWHS students did better on reading (34.1 percent) and English (58.8 percent) and worse on science (31.1 percent) and math (32.5 percent).
Only 18.1 percent of JWHS students were college ready in all four subjects, according to ISBE.
Among high schools in Will County, the class of 2015 college readiness rates at Lincoln-Way East High School (71.1 percent), Plainfield North High School (61.2 percent), Lockport Township High School East (59.8 percent), Peotone High School (52.7 percent) and Plainfield East High School (48.8 percent) were all higher than at PSHS. Joliet Central High School (22.9 percent), Crete-Monee High School (33.9 percent), Romeoville High School (38.4 percent) and Joliet West High School (40.0 percent) were all lower.
