REGULAR MEETING of the City Council of the City of Lockport, Illinois was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in the Lockport Township Community Room, located at 1463 Farrell Road, Lockport, IL. Mayor, Steve Streit called the Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

LIAISON REPORT
1. King – Special Events
a. Sweets and Savory Crawl – September 14, 11 – 3 pm, tickets on sale now
b. Fridays in the Park – last one September 5, 6-9 pm at the Lincoln Landing
c. Hells Gate Haunted House Costume Party – September 13, 7-11 pm; tickets on sale now
2. Pugh– Police
a. Nikki Wierzbowski retired from the Lockport Police Department on September 2. She served as the department’s office manager and code enforcement records coordinator. Nikki began her career as a secretary with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office and went on to dedicate the remainder of her career to the Lockport Police Department. Over the course of 34 years, she devoted her time and talent to serving the citizens of Lockport and Will County. We thank Nikki for her years of service and wish her all the best in her retirement.
b. On September 15, the Lockport Police Department is pleased to welcome Lexie Drwal to our staff. Lexie will assume many of the responsibilities following the recent retirement of Nikki Wierzbowski. She brings with her several years of experience working for one of the nation’s largest medical distributors and will apply her skills and knowledge to her new role at the Lockport Police Department. We are excited to have Lexie join our team and look forward to the contributions she will make to our department and the City of Lockport.
c. Representatives from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and FEMA will be going door-to-door in the community over the next several days to verify damage from the storms that occurred on August 16-19. Inspection personnel will be wearing safety vest and will carry official photo identification. They will not enter homes or businesses. 3. McDonald – Finance
a. The City uses NIMEC to bid out electric for the City facilities (not residences). This has saved the City over $15K per month this summer, in comparison to Comed’s summer rates.

Director of Public Works, Brian Lovering, shared details about damage to the pole barn from the last storm.

NEW BUSINESS
1. City Administrator, Ben Benson informed Council that the Waste Management contract is up for renewal. The City is evaluating options and will be seeking bids, possible new contract for a 5 year contract with a 5 year extension. Proposal will be submitted to Council for approval in October. Discussion among the Council re: recycling.
