The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced emergency closures affecting ramps and lanes on Interstate 80 and Center Street in Joliet and Rockdale. The eastbound I-80 ramp to northbound Center Street, as well as northbound Center Street between Meadow Avenue and I-80, are currently closed for emergency repairs. Both are expected to reopen by the evening rush hour on Monday, October 6.
In addition, the westbound I-80 ramp to southbound Center Street/Meadow Avenue will experience occasional closures while repair work continues.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area. IDOT has stated that local streets cannot accommodate heavy or wide trucks, so drivers of such vehicles should use other interstate routes instead.
Delays are expected in the area, and travelers should allow extra time for their trips. "Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment," according to IDOT.
