Village of Peotone Village Board met Aug. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

I. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Vieaux at 6:00 pm.

II. Roll call

Village Clerk, Stacey Hartwell, conducted the roll call and following persons were present: Trustee Bowden, Trustee Hudson, Trustee Richards, Trustee Sandberg and Trustee Sluis. Also present was Village Administrator Palmer, Village Attorney Bartley and Village Engineer Golem.

III. Presentation of Appreciation to Peotone Police Department from Peotone American Legion Post 392 – They presented a plaque in appreciation of the outstanding support from the Police Department to the American Legion.

IV. Public Comments: None

V. Approval of Consent Agenda:

A. Approve Minutes of the August 11, 2025, Regular Village Board meeting

B. Approve Minutes of the August 11, 2025, Executive Session

C. Approve Payroll/Accounts Payable

VI. Staff Committee Reports:

A. Public Works – Bob reported that the Conrad Street project is complete, it is just waiting on sod which will be installed when the weather is cooler. The Village received the same pricing as last year for trees which will be planted in the fall, he has prepared a list and will send out letters prior to planting. The sign at I-57 has been re-installed. Work on the MFT Crawford Street project is ongoing, there have been more undercuts than anticipated and the binder layer and surface layer remain to be completed. The RFP for crack sealing was sent out and one quote has been received so far.

B. Police – The Village was awarded the STEP Safety Award Grant and he has applied for a grant for a laser radar gun. The Will County Fair had record breaking attendance on Wednesday and Saturday, there were no incidents during the Fair, there was a command trailer set up during the Fair with representatives from Police, Fire, EMA and there was a dispatcher there over the weekend.

C. AOC – Trustee Hudson reported that there was discussion on potential new financial software and that it will be a process and take some time, the committee is not ready to make a recommendation to the board yet but staff will continue to investigate options and present a formal recommendation to the board for consideration.

D. Admin – Nick reported that code enforcement is doing follow up on items and investigating new items and has issued a few stop work orders. He also provided year to date information on the building department.

E. Economic Dev – Trustee Bowden reported that there was a presentation on Placer AI and that there was discussion about ideas and goals of economic development for Peotone and they are also working on comprehensive planning.

A. Approve New Business Registration for Children’s Advocate LLC, 211 N. Second Street, Peotone, IL 60468

Renee Jackson was present and gave an overview of the services that will be provided for children with diverse learning, behavioral and health concerns.

F. Approve Resolution Authorizing Purchase Order with Placer Labs, Inc. in the Amount of $12,000

Administrator Palmer gave an overview of the program. There had also been a demonstration of the program at the Economic Development Committee Meeting. It will be used as a tool for identifying and growing development efforts in the Village.

IX. Questions of the Press: None

X. Correspondence/Communications/Petitions: Trustee Hudson reminded the audience about the I-57 Access Study Meeting that will be at the Will County Fair Atrium tomorrow from 3pm-6pm, it is a land use study and involves road improvements and interchanges, comments can also be submitted online. Trustee Richards asked about the status of Route 50 and County Line that was discussed at the last meeting, the Mayor responded that he has sent out letters expressing the importance of getting this addressed and taken care of and Trustee Hudson stated he has also sent letters. The Mayor also reported that the Fire Department has been in contact with Patrick Joyce’s office regarding having a meeting to discuss and Administrator Palmer would like to set up a meeting with them and include Police and Fire to get our data collected and he will keep the Board informed.
