Ruby Street Bridge reopens as Cass Street Bridge set for closure and repairs

The Ruby Street Bridge in Joliet, Illinois, which spans the Des Plaines River, has reopened to traffic. City officials announced that the Cass Street (U.S. 30) bridge is scheduled to close for rehabilitation on Friday, September 26 at 7:00 AM, weather permitting. The closure is expected to last until late 2026.

According to the city’s statement, “Ruby Street (Illinois 53) Bridge over the Des Plaines River has been reopened. The Cass Street (U.S. 30) bridge is scheduled to close, weather permitting, Friday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 AM for a rehabilitation project, anticipated to be completed in late 2026.”

The rehabilitation project on Cass Street Bridge is being managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Additional details about this project can be found on the department’s website.
