The City of Joliet Office of Emergency & Disaster Management has announced that tornado sirens throughout the city will undergo scheduled maintenance and testing on September 11, 12, and 15, 2025.

According to city officials, the sirens will sound briefly during these dates as part of the testing process. Residents are informed that this is only a test and not an indication of an actual emergency. The city noted that no severe weather is forecast during this period, but if severe weather does occur, the testing will be rescheduled.

“Tornado sirens are a critical part of Joliet’s public safety warning system, designed to alert residents when severe weather threatens the community. Regular testing and maintenance help ensure the system is reliable and ready to perform when needed,” stated the City of Joliet Office of Emergency & Disaster Management.

Residents are not required to take any action during the scheduled tests but are encouraged to use this time to review their personal and family emergency plans.

For additional information about the tornado siren testing or other emergency management concerns, residents can contact John Lukancic with the Office of Emergency & Disaster Management at (815) 724-3563 or by email at EmergencyManagement@joliet.gov.

Joliet is located in Will and Kendall counties in Illinois, approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago. It serves as the county seat for Will County and had a population of over 150,000 according to the 2020 census. More details about Joliet can be found at https://www.joliet.gov.
