Lane closures and a stage change are set to begin on westbound Interstate 80 between Interstate 55 and Ridge Road as part of ongoing reconstruction efforts. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that, weather permitting, the work will start at 9 p.m. Wednesday. At least one westbound lane will remain open during the closures, which are scheduled to end by 6 a.m. Thursday when a new traffic pattern will be in place.

In this updated configuration, westbound lanes will shift to the right onto newly constructed concrete pavement in the affected area. The left shoulder is expected to stay closed while work continues on the median barrier wall, with completion anticipated later this fall.

"Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment," according to IDOT.

The agency also advised that lane shifts, overnight closures, and significant delays should be expected as construction progresses. Travelers are encouraged to allow extra time for trips through this corridor.
