Masonry work on all City Square structures in Joliet is nearing completion, according to a recent update. The sidewalk replacement on the north side of Clinton Street at Chicago has been finished and reopened to pedestrians. Concrete driveway replacement for the Ottawa Street Parking Deck entry was scheduled for Saturday, requiring closure of the deck until Monday, August 18.
The city reports that the entrance to the Ottawa Street Parking Deck will reopen Monday morning. Com Ed is set to install power cables for a new transformer on Ottawa Street, which will supply electricity to various new City Square elements. Electrical work involving conduits and components within City Square will also continue during the week.
Additional improvements include placement of a concrete base for new brick paver alley pavement adjacent to the Ottawa Street Parking Garage and ongoing work on soil cells and planter boxes in front of the library. Parking restrictions remain in place for northbound lanes of Chicago Street in front of the Rialto Theatre, limited to drop-offs and deliveries only.
A completed shade structure, future water feature, and seatwalls near Van Buren intersection are now visible. Masonry work on both the main stage and gathering area structures has been completed, while masonry work on the north water fountain feature is close to finishing with its adjacent shade structure already done.
