Joliet, IL – The Joliet City Council and members of the public were briefed on the progress of the city's Comprehensive Plan during a meeting held on July 15. Planning Director Jayne Bernhard emphasized the need for community participation through a multilingual survey available on the city's website.
"We are now seeking input from our residents through a survey we’ve developed, available in both English and Spanish as well as Polish, Arabic, and traditional Chinese," said Bernhard. Residents completing the survey can enter a contest to win one of ten $50 gift cards by providing their email address.
The first public workshop for the Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for September 17 at Joliet West High School. The project webpage includes an Existing Conditions Report and other details.
Mayor Terry D’Arcy highlighted resident involvement's significance in shaping Joliet’s future. "This is the first Comprehensive Plan the city has undertaken in over 60 years, and it is vital that all members of the community participate," said D’Arcy.
The city collaborates with Lamar Johnson Collaborative to develop a plan addressing economic development, transportation, housing, natural resources, and infrastructure. Completion is expected by early 2027 with final adoption anticipated by late 2026 or early 2027.
