City of Joliet Committee on Citizens with Disabilities met June 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL

Present Billy Jo Adams, Chairperson Anthony Arellano, Pam Heavens, Gary Jones, Riley Spreadbury, Sherry Voight, Steven Voight and John Jamontas

Absent Kim Hudgens and Veronica Pollard

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Approval of Minutes from May, 2025

These Minutes were approved.

CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS

This section is for anyone wanting to speak regarding agenda items and are allowed a maximum of 4 minutes. It is not a question and answer period and staff, and the Committee members do not generally respond to public comments. The City Clerk has a copy of the public speaking procedures; please note, speakers who engage in conduct injurious to the harmony of the meeting shall be called to order by the Presiding Officer and may forfeit the opportunity to speak.

Discussion: July Disability Fair Updates

The July 26 Event - “Disability Pride Fair” was discussed including the current status of planning, resource partners and set up for the day of. An update on the request for table and chairs at Bicentennial Park is discussed.

Discussion: Inclusion within the Committee - Spanish Speaking Community & Engagement at Local Churches

The Committee discusses having more inclusive meetings and representation of the Spanish Speaking Community, as well as Church Representatives both at future Committee meetings, and at the Disability Pride Event.

Discussion: Committee Brochure

Comments are made regarding the Committee’s Brochure. Previous

suggestions to replace the images with more inclusive photographs are mentioned for follow up. The City’s liaison will email out the brochure again to continue gathering feedback.
