At its upcoming meeting on July 15, the Joliet City Council will review a proposed labor agreement with the Joliet Fire Officers, Local 2369 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).
The contract under consideration spans four years, from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028. This proposal is the result of several months of negotiations between union representatives and the city's labor team.
One significant aspect of the agreement is a residency provision allowing fire officers to reside within 50 miles of Jefferson Street and Essington Road. This aligns with a recently approved Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with Joliet Fire Fighters Local 44. The city aims to attract applicants not only from Joliet but also from nearby communities.
City Manager Beth Beatty highlighted the cooperative nature of these discussions: “We value the essential work of our employees and are pleased to bring forward a contract that supports both the workforce and the long-term interests of the city,” said Beatty.
Approval would mark progress in maintaining strong relationships with public safety personnel while managing taxpayer resources responsibly.
