New traffic signal at IL Route 53 and Emerald Drive now active

The City of Joliet, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation, has activated a new traffic signal at the intersection of IL Route 53 (Chicago Street) and Emerald Drive. The signal became operational on June 10, 2025.

The city announced that final pavement markings are expected to be completed within the next two weeks. Drivers are advised to remain cautious as construction wraps up.

Joliet is situated in Will and Kendall counties, approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago. It serves as the county seat of Will County and had a population of 150,362 according to the 2020 census.
