Chicago street corridor project progresses with significant developments

The ongoing development of the Chicago Street Corridor is making progress, with recent work completed and new tasks scheduled for the upcoming week. As of June 2nd, concrete planter boxes and finished sidewalk areas on Chicago Street, stretching from Jefferson to Clinton Street, have been installed. The remaining curbs between Clinton and Cass Streets are also in place. Additionally, ComEd has reconstructed the underground vault located in front of the library.

For the week starting June 9th, construction efforts will focus on several key areas. The concrete base for brick paver areas will continue to be laid north of Van Buren to Cass Street. Electrical work within City Square is set to proceed alongside preparations for planter boxes along Chicago Street in this area. Plumbing connections for new fountain features at the south end of City Square will be established, while foundation work for a gathering area and small stage will commence.

Parking restrictions along Chicago Street adjacent to active work zones are expected as crews carry out their tasks. Daily closures can also be anticipated. Furthermore, Chicago Street between Clinton and Cass Streets remains closed to all traffic during this phase of construction. HMA patching of utility trenches on Cass Street and Scott Street at Clinton is planned for completion.

Visual updates show continued progress across all sections of City Square as seen from above the main stage area. Foundation preparation for both the gathering area and small stage has been completed ahead of upcoming concrete work.

Plumbing installations are ongoing at the southern end where new water features are being integrated into City Square's design.
