On Sunday, June 1, emergency services in Crete responded to a house fire that displaced a family of four adults and three children. In the aftermath, both the Crete Police and Fire Departments initiated efforts to support the affected family.

“This family is in need of some essential items to get them through this difficult time. Clothing, toiletries, and non-refrigerated food items would greatly benefit this family until they can get settled in temporary housing,” stated a post on the Crete Police Department's Facebook page.

The community's response was swift. Within 24 hours, donations began pouring in from local residents. “Today, members of the fire department, DPW, EMA/animal control, and the police department delivered these donations to the family. They were overwhelmed by the support of our community,” wrote Crete Police Chief Pieritz in a Facebook update.

“The community’s generosity knows no bounds,” another post from the Crete Police highlighted. The sentiment was echoed by the Crete Fire Department: “Our Community Responds… Overwhelming Overnight response to Yesterday’s house fire!!!”
