Starting June 9, 2025, Exchange Street will be closed between Walt’s Food and Illinois Route 394 for approximately 75 days. This closure includes both lanes of traffic, affecting motorists' ability to turn west at the intersection of Exchange Street and Illinois Route 394 or travel east from Walt’s Food to access this intersection.

The Crete Police Department clarified that this is not a project controlled by the Village of Crete. The anticipated reopening date is August 25th if the construction proceeds as scheduled. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes during this period due to expected changes in traffic patterns.

Chief Pieritz shared these details on Facebook, emphasizing the need for drivers to plan their routes carefully while construction is underway.

"Please use caution while traveling in this area and map out an alternative route during this construction," he stated.
