The City of Joliet has opened nominations for the 2025 Neighborhood Hero Award Program. This annual initiative recognizes residents who show exceptional pride in maintaining their properties, enhancing neighborhood beauty, and fostering civic pride.

Residents are encouraged to nominate neighbors who exemplify outstanding yard maintenance and property care. Award recipients will receive a celebratory yard sign and recognition from the Joliet City Council.

The criteria for the award include having a neatly maintained lawn with thoughtful use of flowers, shrubs, trees, planting beds, hardscaping, and other decorative features. The home exterior must be well-maintained and in good condition. Landscaping work should be completed by the resident without visible garbage cans or artificial flowers. Nominees must not have current city code violations or unpaid fines.

Nominations are due by Friday, May 30, 2025. To submit a nomination, provide the property address along with a brief description explaining why the nominee deserves recognition, particularly highlighting any noticeable improvements made to their property. Contact information including phone number or email for the nominee must be provided.

Submissions can be sent via email to Jacqueline Lozada at jlozada@joliet.gov or by mail to City of Joliet Neighborhood Services at 150 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, IL 60432. For questions, contact Jacqueline Lozada at (815) 724-4096.

"Let’s honor those who make Joliet a beautiful place to live—nominate a Neighborhood Hero today."
