Residents of the Village of Monee should prepare for upcoming hydrant flushing, set to begin on Monday, April 28, 2025. The water main flushing, which occurs annually in spring, is expected to last approximately three to four weeks. The initiative aims to enhance water quality across the village.

The flushing of water mains is recognized as an inconvenience to residents, yet is deemed essential for maintaining optimal water quality. The process is intended to remove sediment from natural mineral content that can degrade the quality of water. Additionally, the flushing serves as a "stress test" for the village's distribution system, facilitating the identification and repair of any issues emerging from increased water flows.

The operations are scheduled to start daily at 7 a.m. and will usually conclude by 3 p.m., though they may continue until 7 p.m. if necessary. "We estimate that the entire process will take 3-4 weeks to complete," explains a spokesperson for the initiative.

Residents are advised to pay attention to signage in their neighborhoods announcing the schedule for their area. These signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance. "The attached schedule is an estimate, and exact dates and times are subject to change as conditions warrant."

During and after the flushing, discolored water may be encountered. Residents are advised to run cold water taps for about five minutes to clear the water. It is also recommended to avoid using hot water taps and to refrain from doing laundry to prevent staining.

For any questions, residents can contact the Village of Monee Public Works Department at 708-534-8306.
