Lillian K. Moroney, aged 86, passed away peacefully in her Elwood home on December 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her children: Sean, Michael, Elizabeth (Derrick Barton), Kathryn, and Mary Holly (Wayne Jurgerson); grandchildren: John, Sean Jr., Alex (Alexandra), Michael, Allison, Jeff, Emily, Elizabeth, and Erin; and several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Francis and Florence Mahoney, husband John “Bill” Moroney, and daughter-in-law Cynthia Moroney.

Born and raised in Chicago, Lillian attended Bowen High School and earned degrees from the University of Chicago and St. Xavier College. Lillian was known for her work in market research and as a bank courier, both roles she cherished. A long-standing member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Hazel Crest, she lent her beautiful voice to the choir for weddings and funerals. In her free time, Lillian enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading, and had a talent for napping. An ardent animal lover, her compassion extended to her beloved dogs over the years.

Loved by all who knew her, Lillian will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Visitation and prayers will be held at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manhattan. An interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip will take place privately at a later date. Donations to the ASPCA in Lillian’s name are welcomed. Arrangements are entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in Manhattan.
