Peotone, IL — Michael Edward Tierney, aged 90, of Peotone, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 25, 1934, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Raymond and Catherine Tierney.

Michael leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Lucille Tierney, and his six children: James (Betty Lou) Tierney, Paul (Dawn Marie) Tierney, Jean Tierney, Sharon (Ryan) Tierney, Lawrence (Judy) Tierney, and Michael (Megan) Tierney. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Emily, Sarah, Olive, Kobe Suprenant, Dani, Seth, and Dustin. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rita Goergen.

A De La Salle High School graduate, Michael served in the United States Army, being part of the Peotone American Legion Post 392. His love for aviation began during his time in the Army, and he continued flying throughout his life, owning an airplane charter service. Following his military service, Michael dedicated 42 years to the railroad industry before enjoying 28 years of retirement. He cherished moments fishing, golfing, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Visitation will be held at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a funeral service on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Deacon Milt Leppert. Burial and military honors will follow at Peotone Cemetery. Due to road construction, access to the funeral home will be through Christ Community Church's parking lot at 103 W. Corning Ave., Peotone, IL.
