FOIA Request to City of Joliet Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Will County Gazette have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Joliet.
The request, sent on October 30, 2024, seeks detailed information about both new and active residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present day. The requested data includes specific fields such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the permit is applicable, and contractor's name.
This move is in line with our mission to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
We believe that as media professionals disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. We await a positive response from the City of Joliet regarding this request.
