The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) has announced Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow as its Public Official of the Year for 2024. Chief Marc Maton, ILACP President, praised Glasgow, stating, "He a policeman’s prosecutor and he is always on our side."
James W. Glasgow's career is marked by initiatives aimed at improving crime investigation, prosecution, and prevention. His efforts to support law enforcement and enhance public safety have been recognized by the ILACP.
State’s Attorney Glasgow has played a significant role in assisting agencies with technology acquisitions over recent years. He has worked closely with law enforcement through innovative use of forfeiture funds to provide resources like license plate readers and police K9s.
"Mr. Glasgow has a history of advocating for public safety and providing necessary resources to keep our communities safe," noted ILACP Executive Director Kenny Winslow. "He’s not afraid to speak up for his constituents or prosecute the hard cases."
Glasgow's work against organized retail theft enterprises earned his office the title of Prosecuting Agency of the Year from the Department of Homeland Security in 2023. He established a Financial Crimes Prosecution Unit to assist victims of financial exploitation and identity theft. Additionally, he launched several units focused on high-tech crimes, domestic violence initiatives, gang prosecution, and children's advocacy.
State’s Attorney Glasgow has also been active in legislative advocacy to strengthen criminal laws in Illinois for improved public safety outcomes.
Traditionally presented during Lobby Day in Springfield, this year's award was given at a special presentation before the ILACP Executive Board in August. The organization extended congratulations to State’s Attorney James Glasgow for his contributions.
