Joseph R Domek | Anderson Memorial Home & Heartland Cremation Services
After meeting his childhood sweetheart Mary Lou Domek at St. Viator’s Catholic school in Chicago, Joe graduated from St. George High School in Evanston in 1950. He served as a helicopter mechanic in the US Army in Greenland during the Korean War. Joe's passion for mechanics and aeronautics led him to pursue these interests professionally and recreationally throughout his life. He married Mary Lou in 1954, and together they built a log home in Colorado.
Remembered for his generosity, intelligence, compassion, humor, and commitment to social justice, Joe was a natural leader and a supportive patriarch within his family. His devotion to his wife of 69 years, Mary Lou, and his unwavering caregiving during her health challenges were testaments to his character. He raised his children in Elmhurst, IL, instilling empathy, hard work, and creativity in their upbringing. As a proud grandfather, Joe was actively involved in the lives of his many grandchildren, engaging in rich conversations with family and friends.
Joe is survived by his children: Joseph F. (Kristine) Domek, David (Lynn) Domek, Lenore (Thomas) McArdle, Christopher (Mary Beth) Domek, and Paul (Holly) Domek. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his brother, Alphonse Domek, and extended family.
