City of Joliet Public Safety Committee met Sept. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL

Present: Councilman Joe Clement, Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman and Councilwoman Suzanna Ibarra

ALSO PRESENT: Chief of Police William Evans, Chief of Fire Jeff Carey, and Fleet Services Director Jeff Price

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made to approve COUNCIL MEMO #TMP-7628: Minutes

The motion carried by the following vote:

Aye: Councilman Clement, Councilwoman Hallums Quillman and Councilwoman Ibarra

RESOLUTIONS

Resolution Declaring Certain City of Joliet Property as Surplus 

Jeff Price briefly explains.

Councilwoman Quillman asks question, then there is a discussion regarding how small the City's are that need the old ambulances.

Councilman Clement asks questions, Jeff Price answers.

A motion was made by Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman, seconded by Councilwoman Suzanna Ibarra, to recommend for approval COUNCIL MEMO

#TMP-7645: Resolution Declaring Certain City of Joliet Property as Surplus.

The motion carried by the following vote:

Aye: Councilman Clement, Councilwoman Hallums Quillman and Councilwoman Ibarra

NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION

Councilman Clement addresses issues in Aurora Colorado and in the City of Chicago and wants to make sure we are prepared.

Councilwoman Ibarra addresses how she feels safe in the City.

Chief Evans speaks regarding topics.

Councilman Clement asks about police numbers and wants to hire even more officers.

Chief Evans answers regarding numbers.

Councilwoman Ibarra asks to use Rosemaria to expand our recruiting.

Chief Evans answers.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Marianna Perez talks about violence towards her home and family, and wants questions answered.

Trista Brown from Speak Up, talked about the safety by Stake and Shake and thanked everyone for listening and taking care of her concern. Also talked about a person in need and thanked Officer Ryan Smith, and Chief Carey for giving them a gift card.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Councilwoman Ibarra, seconded by Councilwoman Hallums Quillman, that this was adjourn.

The motion carried by the following vote:

Aye: Councilman Clement, Councilwoman Hallums Quillman and Councilwoman Ibarra
