Village of Peotone Village Board met Aug. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

I. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor March at 6:00 pm.

II. Roll call

Village Clerk, Stacey Hartwell, conducted the roll call and following persons were present: Trustee Hudson, Trustee Marevka, Trustee Richards, Trustee Sandberg and Trustee Strba. Also, present were the Mayor, the Village Administrator, the Village Attorney and the Village Engineer.

III. Public Comments: Ed Nelson with the Peotone Historical Society wanted to thank Nick Palmer, Chief DeMik and Bob Hennke for all the work that went into the demo of the Mill. On September 7th Game On will be having a Golf Cart Pub Crawl to help raise funds to support the Mill, September 15th is the Annual Old Mill Fall Fest and the next meeting of the Peotone Historical Society is on September 5th. There is an active Go Fund Me and also a bank account set up at First Community Bank for donations. Dominique Dettmering spoke about her current business in Grant Park and about the possibility of expanding it at the Peotone Travel Center. They currently service vehicles at the Travel Center and having a location there would be more efficient. She was offered an opportunity to rent storage space with the long term goal of adding a full service mechanic shop for tire replacement and repairs.

IV. Approval of Consent Agenda:

A. Approve the Minutes of the August 12, 2024, Regular Village Board meeting

B. Approve Payroll/Accounts Payable

C. Special Event, Trunk or Treat, Cornerstone Coffee/Jim Williams, 124 W. Main Street, October 27, 2024 (Rain Date November 3, 2024), 11:00am-2:00pm, Road Closure on First St from Corning to Main St

D. Special Event, Peotone High School Homecoming Parade, October 11, 2024, Starting at 4:00pm

V. Staff Committee Reports:

A. Engineer – Troy reported that work is being done on the concrete planter curbs and they will start setting the light poles.

B. Public Works- Bob reported that Nicor is in the design phase of the relocation for the Conrad Street Storm Sewer Project and then Aqua will follow. The department has been spraying weeds at the curb lines, right of ways and railroad tracks.

C. Chief – Chief reported he has submitted the reimbursement for the Traffic Safety Grant and that the Will County Fair only had two minor incidents and some parking complaints

D. Admin – Nick gave an overview of his submitted report. He went to a grant seminar hosted by Robin Kelly with IDOT and CMAP, Will County sent out a long-range transportation plan update and is looking for public comment and they are also doing a safety study, he is reviewing contracts and is looking into providing more information on the Village website.

VIII. New Business:

A. Present Certificate of Appreciation for Years of Service to the Village of Peotone to Bob Hennke

B. Approve Purchase of New Vehicle and Build Out for Police Vehicle from Terry’s Ford in the Amount of $63,697.42

C. Resolution Authorizing the Execution of a Memorandum of Understanding Between the Village of Peotone and the Village of Monee

Monee has reached out asking for a couple Police Officers to help for the Moving Wall event and their Fall Fest, the Chief stated the department will provide three officers and Monee will pay for their services.

D. Resolution Authorizing Access for Village Administrator Nick Palmer to Village of Peotone Bank Accounts at Old National Bank

This will give the Administrator authorization to sign checks and transfer funds, there is a two-person authentication already in place.

E. Resolution Approving Emergency Demolition Work with Affordable Tree Experts at the Peotone Mill

Four quotes had been received and the decision was made to go with the lowest bidder. The Village will pay the full amount and will be reimbursed half of the amount from the Peotone Historical Society.
