Joliet Public Safety Committee meeting scheduled for August 6

The City of Joliet Public Safety Committee will convene on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the Council Chambers, Second Floor, at Joliet City Hall, located at 150 West Jefferson Street, Joliet, Illinois. The meeting will address several agenda items.

The session will begin with roll call and the approval of minutes from meetings held on June 4 and July 2 of this year. Following these formalities, citizens will have the opportunity to speak on agenda items for a maximum of four minutes each. It is noted that this segment is not intended for questions and answers; neither staff nor committee members typically respond to public comments during this time.

Agenda items include the payment of an invoice amounting to $30,333.50 for web-based fire inspection services and an amendment to the compensation scale for crossing guards.

Several resolutions are slated for discussion:

- A resolution authorizing the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Joliet and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives regarding reimbursement of overtime salary costs.

- A resolution authorizing a grant program agreement between the State of Illinois and the City of Joliet to provide transportation and counseling services for seniors.

- A resolution authorizing a FOID enforcement grant program agreement between the State of Illinois and the City of Joliet.

- A resolution requesting authorization to accept a grant to assist Joliet’s tobacco enforcement program.

There will also be a segment dedicated to new or old business that is not intended for final action or recommendation.

Following agenda discussions, there will be another public comment period allowing individuals up to four minutes each to speak on non-agenda items. Similar rules apply regarding conduct and response from staff or committee members.

The meeting will conclude with adjournment.
