St Anthony Catholic Church memorializes Deacon Danahey

Deacon Daniel Danahey was memorialized by St. Anthony Catholic Church following his death on June 9, 2024. He was ordained at St. Raymond's Cathedral in 1997.

"Deacon Dan had a heart of gold, and he would go out of his way to help anyone and everyone in need. His sense of welcoming to everyone was special and unique. Deacon Dan’s warm sense of humor and smile will be greatly missed," St. Anthony Catholic Church staff said in a remembrance on its website.

According to the remembrance on the St. Anthony Catholic Church website, Danahey was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and was active on the Parish Council. He was the last of the "original three" deacons along with Deacon Don and Deacon Rich.

The 84-year-old Frankfort, Illinois resident retired after 37 years as a dispatcher for Broderick Trucking Co., according to his obituary by Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He was married for 47 years to the late Irene Bernardi Danahey. A funeral Mass was held on June 14 at St. Anthony Church in Frankfort.

He was the father of Daniel Danahey, Danielle (Kenneth) Kolosh, Shawn Danahey, Devin (Jacqueline) Danahey, Kelly (Mark) Powell, Tracy (Michael) Haarmann, and Maegen (Jeffrey) Tulk, according to his obituary by Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home. He was also the grandfather of Grant, Kasey (James) Spasoff, Emmett, Alexis, Blair, Luke, Victoria, Cole, Mac, Olivia, Dominic, Giovanna, and Gavin; and great-grandfather of Tristan, Evan, Blake Spasoff, and Gianni Danahey. Son of the late Eileen nee Cummings and William Danahey; he was brother to Robert (Louise) Danahey and Thomas (Nancy) Danahey; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
